Privacy policy
Short version: CaddiWise keeps your data on your iPhone. There's no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. A few features send your location to a service to work something out for you, and that's described below.

Who we are
CaddiWise is an independent app made in the United Kingdom. "We" in this policy means the CaddiWise developer, who is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law and can be contacted at support@caddiwise.com.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you put into CaddiWise is stored only on your device and is never sent to us: your clubs and bags, range sessions and launch-monitor imports, courses you import or map, rounds, scores and tracked shots, playing partners' names and handicaps, notes, settings and your handicap. Swing videos you record or import, and the body tracking that analyses them, also stay on your iPhone; the analysis runs on the device.
If you make a backup in Settings, CaddiWise creates a file and hands it to the iOS share sheet; where it goes (Files, iCloud Drive, another app) is your choice.
When data leaves your phone
Some features need to look something up. In each case only what's needed is sent, it's used to answer that request, and we don't receive or keep it.
- Finding courses. When you search for courses near you or by town, your approximate location or search text is sent to Apple Maps (Apple's privacy policy applies) to find golf courses.
- Course maps. When you open a course, CaddiWise downloads its map from courses.caddiwise.com (hosted by Cloudflare), or, if it isn't there, from the OpenStreetMap Overpass service using the course's location. These requests include your device's IP address, as any internet request does; Cloudflare may keep standard security logs. We don't link these to you.
- Wind and slope. During a round, the position of the hole you're on and your position on it are sent to Open-Meteo to get the wind and the height of the ground, for "plays like" yardages.
- Siri. If you ask Siri for a yardage or a club, Siri handles your request under Apple's privacy policy; CaddiWise answers from data on your phone.
We don't sell or share personal data, and we don't use it for advertising or to build a profile of you.
Permissions
- Location is used only during a round (including with the phone locked, so the lock screen can show yardages) and when you search for courses near you. It stops when the round ends.
- Camera is used only when you record a swing.
- Photos: CaddiWise only sees videos you choose to import.
You can change these at any time in Settings › CaddiWise.
Your rights
Because your data is on your device and not held by us, you're in control of it: you can change or delete anything in the app, and deleting the app deletes its data. Under UK GDPR you also have rights to access, correct and erase personal data, and to object; if you have a question or think we hold something about you, email support@caddiwise.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
CaddiWise isn't aimed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
